The biggest design trend for 2023: COLORS!!!

Posted by Julie Groleau on

You know those monochromatic, minimalist Scandinavian interiors people were going crazy over a few years back? Yeah, they're out. 2023's biggest interior design trend is color—lots and lots of color.

We've seen a lot of trends come and go in the interior design world, but none as big as the shift that happened in 2020. That's when the pandemic hit and everything changed. Before the pandemic, minimalist Scandinavian designs were dominating interior trends. People wanted simple, neutral spaces in all white or beige tones. But when people were forced to stay indoors for months at a time, they started craving color—and not just any color: bright ones! We've seen the rise of the Danish pastel aesthetics in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, the color trend is only getting bigger and bolder: we're seeing more bright colors than ever before—colors that evoke positive feelings from those who see them.

In fact, we've already started seeing it: in a recent survey of top interior designers, they said that "colors" were their most-requested word for 2023! And we believe them: after all, how could anyone not want to live in something like this? We're seeing everything from rainbow-hued rooms to bright pops of color in modernist spaces everywhere on insta and TikTok.

How to choose colors for your home: consider the psychology of colors

Every colour in your home affects your mood. Have you ever noticed that when you walk into a room and notice a change in the lighting, or if you're suddenly surrounded by a bunch of colours you don't typically see, it can make you feel different? Well, it's not just in your head: there are specific emotions associated with each colour. Here's what your favourite hues say about how you feel!

  • Red: Energy, passion, power
  • Orange: Creativity and happiness
  • Yellow: Happiness and positivity
  • Green: Relaxation and calmness
  • Blue: Calmness and tranquility
  • Pink: love, kindness, and femininity
  • Purple: power, nobility, luxury, wisdom, and spirituality

Are you a fan of the color orange? How about blue? Well, if you're a fan of the color orange, there's a good chance that it makes you feel energetic, creative, and happy. Blue, on the other hand, is known for making people feel calm and relaxed. While these associations may sound like common sense, there is actually some science behind them. According to studies done by psychologists and researchers, certain colors can affect our moods in very specific ways. For example, blue has been found to have calming effects on people who are stressed out or anxious; green has been shown to decrease aggression in people who are prone towards angry outbursts; and red has been linked with increased alertness and energy levels. The color pink, on the other hand, is thought to be a calming color associated with love, kindness, and femininity. It is a nurturing, playful, and nostalgic color that takes people back to happy times from their childhoods. So what does this mean for your home? Well it means that every room in your house should be decorated with colors that will make you feel good! If you want a room that helps you relax and unwind at the end of a long day (like your bedroom), then go with soft green tones, or a beautiful pastel blue. If you want an area where guests will feel welcome (like the living room), then pick deep reds or purples!

Here's how to integrate 2023´s biggest design trend in your home:

Paint your Walls full of colors:

Painted walls are one of the biggest design trends in 2023. Say goodbye to white walls and hello to beautiful colourful walls. Don't be afraid to go bold and bright! Make a statement with your new colour scheme, and don't just stick with one room either--paint your window frames or door frames for an instant update. If you want to go bold and bright, but don't want to paint a full wall, try painting half of your wall.

Paint your kitchen cabinets:

You probably already noticed on instagram or TikTok, but painted kitchen cabinets in trendy colors arguing to be HUGE in 2023.  Kitchens used to be boring—or, all white or neutrals. In 2023, kitchens are a place to express yourself and show off your personality. And nothing says “I’m an individual” like painted cabinets that match the rest of your home decor!

The kitchen is the heart of your home. It's where you do everything from cooking to creating, from entertaining guests to doing homework with your kids. It's got to be a place that makes you feel good—a place where you want to spend time, whether it's by yourself or with others.

That's why we're so excited about painted kitchen cabinets intrendy colors! These cabinets are stylish and easy on the eyes, and they give you a chance to express yourself in a way that doesn't involve painting the walls or adding new appliances. If you're looking for an upgrade that won't break the bank, these are it!

Paint your furniture in bold and bright colors:

The future is bright, literally. You can paint your furniture in beautiful bright colors to make it pop!

You don't have to be afraid of color anymore. The future is now and we can all paint our chairs, tables, or even your couch... with whatever shade of the rainbow we want!

So why should you paint your furniture? Because it's fun to do! And because color is an easy way to make a space look fresh and new again when things start feeling stale or dull--and who doesn't want that?

Add colors to your home with beautiful wall art:

The first step to making a gallery wall is deciding what you want it to say. Are you looking for something that makes a bold statement? Or do you want something more subtle, but still artful? Once you've settled on an idea, it's time to start collecting art.

If there's one thing I've learned from my years of designing art prints and hanging them, it's that there are no rules when it comes to creating the perfect gallery wall--you just have to follow your heart! My advice is keep an open mind when shopping for pieces; even if they're not exactly what was planned initially (or even remotely similar), if they inspire feelings of joy or excitement in any way at all then consider buying them anyway! Find something that speak to you and mirror your personality.

Add color to your home with accessories:

You can't have too many bright pink mirrors in your home. You know, the kind that are just so large and so shiny that they almost blind you when you look at them. Or maybe you're more of a coffee table book guy? I mean, after all, who doesn't love a good read? And what about those neon colored lights that hang from the ceiling? Are they a little much? Maybe. But are they fun?! Hell yes!

Here are three quick and easy things you can do to add a little extra fun to your space with accessories:

1. Brighten things up with some new coffee table books. You can find them at any bookstore or online. Make sure they're something you'll actually read, though!

2. Change out that mirror on the wall with something more colorful and fun-looking than the standard silver or gold options. You can find these at any department store or online, too!

3. Put up some bright colored curtains in your living room windows so they pop against the white walls around them!

In the end, it's all about colours and shapes. If you want to be on trend in 2023, go bold with your designs! The future is bright, and it's going to be colourful.
